DISTRΩ

My final year project studying under the University of Gloucestershire Games Design course, DISTRΩ is a slapstick online co-op management simulation game, where players are tasked with fulfilling the orders of hailing spacecraft from their supply depot space station.

DISTRΩ was developed in 4 months in a team of 5 skilled developers of different disciplines, my roles on this project were primarily design and gameplay programming.

The trailer video uses outdated gameplay recordings that does not represent the current state of the project.

Contributions

  • Online networked capabilities
  • Core gameplay systems; Order management, day based progression system, upgrading
  • Character controller & input provider
  • Animation framework & procedural IK
  • Supported development of custom lighting shader
  • Sound effects sourcing & SFX tools

Gameplay

The objective of DISTRΩ is to fulfil incoming orders as fast and as accurately as possible by customising the layout of the Distro Centre and working as a team.

As players progress through the days and prove their worth to management, the orders will get more complex and more processes will be added

Online Co-op

Using the new networking features in Unity 6 and utilizing Unity Relay Services, DISTRΩ is able to be played with up to 4 friends.

DISTRΩ is a co-op oriented game that relies on team members to communicate effectively to make sure the orders go smoothly.

Future Plans

We intend to further develop this project and prepare it for release on an online digital storefront, such as Steam, and implement improvements to the gameplay with the feedback given at the GAMEX university event where it was showcased, where players largely enjoyed the intense collaboration the gameplay required to clear the days, and the rag-doll physics that would cause players to slip over in puddles or after being hit with fast moving objects.
